Blog Post #8 - The End...

Journey – How did You become You?

Wow so this is the end of this blog post journey! It’s been a different way to process my learning but honestly this is such an awesome and unique way for me to write! Besides getting behind on my blog posts, this has been a fun experience!

1.)   Professionalism: I feel that blog post #3 – The Blend of AI and Writing showed my professionalism. This was one of my posts where I remember looking back at my writing and saying woah! I sound so academic! I feel like I can go back and forth between my academic voice and my informal voice, but this was definitely a piece that I feel held my academic voice. Which the topic probably benefitted from more of an academic voice in my eyes to capture that professionalism about AI in the writing process.

2.)   Multimodal design: Definitely blog post #7 – Monarch Zine! Because that was the true capture of a multimodal project to me. I had a lot of fun doing this project! I was happy with the result I got in making my zine! This felt so relaxing to do and less like homework, which is insane! This project really helped me think about important themes I thought were crucial to capture through imagery and words. This was so unique to do compared to standard homework assignments.

3.)   Creativity: Blog post #2 – Who am I as a Writer? I had such a fun time creating my literacy collage! It was so cool to deeply think back on all the books and stories and figure out what portrayed me as a reader and a writer. I remember spending a good amount of time putting all the images together. I love a good collage in general, so this definitely held my attention in creativity.

4.)   Civic engagement: Blog post #6 - Book Talk for Monarca, and #7 – Monarch Zine! Because these posts helped me connect to bigger issues that happens in the world. Specifically in blog post #6 I was able to reflect on how I can use this topic and information of the book Monarca by Ava Aridjis in my teaching. This had me thinking about how I can get engaged with issues and how I can create conversations with others to get involved and engaged too.

For a late blog post nomination of the “People’s Choice Award” I would like to nominate Ivy’s The Garden. I just love the garden theme and how that intersected through the blog post prompts is awesome!

Blog Post #7 - Monarch Zine!

The multimodal piece I made is a zine about the book I read for my video book talk! The book I read was Monarca by Eva Aridjis. With using my notes and quotes from the book I was able to piece together different parts that stuck out to me as important ideas that I wanted to show through imagery and words. This caused me to think about the topics in a different mode. I’m not just simply writing a paper, but instead I’m portraying my thoughts through pictures. I think this is such a unique way to reveal my learning from the story.

Doing visual practices can allow students to process their learning in a visual way. Like I said before, writing about these topics is very different from actually creating visuals! This caused me to think deeply of how I want to portray my learning and selecting specific themes from the book that I think would be best as a visual. This sparks creativity and enjoyment into learning because students can do whatever they want to portray their learning. Creating something deeper and artistic makes the work more personable. Allowing the learner to truly connect to what they have learned. With multimodal projects, the possibilities seem endless!

Here is the monarch zine that I created:

Blog Post #6 - Book Talk for Monarca

                              Monarch Magic - Orion Magazine

Hi guys! Here's a link to watch my book talk about the book Monarca: link

The social issues I addressed in the book talk of Monarca is the impact of human activity and how that can harm the world and the population of the monarch butterflies. I think a huge idea of incorporating this into the classroom is to take time to understand different point of views. Since we can’t usually see the harm we do to other beings as humans, looking at how our harm impacts the world and living beings from a different perspective can be extremely eye opening! I think it’s a smart way to look at human impact on the world from another being because it shows us that we aren’t the only ones on this world and we aren’t the only ones being impacted by our human actions!

I’m thinking of making a zine for this text/topic, I think that would be nice!
